Our commitment to wildlife management involves utilizing bait stations for rodent control, addressing larger vertebrate pests, and employing a comprehensive range of strategies for animal damage prevention. We prioritize humane, trap-free solutions like one-way doors and eviction techniques to resolve wildlife conflicts without resorting to traditional trapping methods. Whenever feasible, cost-effective, and in compliance with applicable laws, we adhere to the practice of live trapping and relocating animals.

Understanding Rodent Exclusion - What are rodent exclusions?

Gaps, cracks, and various openings act as an open invitation for rodents. Surprisingly, rats and mice can slip through spaces as minuscule as a dime. Rodent exclusion serves as a protective barrier, effectively preventing rodents from infiltrating gaps around utility pipes, along rooflines, under loose siding and in other areas surrounding the exterior of your home or building.

The Diseases Caused by Mice Droppings

The diseases that rodents carry can be harmful

Many people handle mice droppings very carelessly, often unaware of the health risks they pose. Mice droppings and urine can be very dangerous to human health, as they can transmit several diseases. Here are three common diseases transmitted by mice urine and droppings:

Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome

Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome is caused by a virus called Hantavirus. This virus was first discovered in the Southwestern region of the USA in 1993 but has since become common in Western areas of America. Hantavirus primarily thrives in rats and mice, making rodents the most common carriers. People can get infected with the virus through various means, including contact with fresh mice droppings and urine. Additionally, bites from infected mice can transmit the virus. The virus remains dormant but becomes airborne when the droppings are disturbed or stirred. Even consuming food contaminated with mice droppings and urine can lead to transmission.

Symptoms of Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome include dizziness, muscle aches in the back and hips, acute nausea, general weakness, and severe fevers. Infected individuals should seek immediate medical attention.

Lymphocytic Choriomeningitis

Lymphocytic Choriomeningitis is an infectious disease caused by a virus transmitted by mice. Infections occur when a person comes into contact with mice droppings and urine, most commonly during the colder months when mice seek shelter indoors. Infections come in two phases. The first phase has no specific symptoms, but individuals may experience mild general symptoms such as coughing, chest and joint pains, loss of appetite, salivary gland pain, testicular pain, headaches, and muscle pains.

The second phase is characterized by severe and specific symptoms, including meningitis, encephalitis, and paralysis. Infected individuals are advised to seek immediate medical attention, as the late stages of the infection can be painful and even fatal.

Tularemia

Tularemia is a disease that affects both humans and animals. It is caused by a bacterium called Francisella tularensis, which can quickly kill mice and be fatal to pets like cats and dogs. Infection can occur when the bacteria are inhaled. While the disease can be very lethal, it can be successfully treated with the right antibiotics. Symptoms of infection include severe fevers of up to 105 degrees, swelling of the lymphatic glands in the groin and armpits, eye inflammations, mouth ulcers, and a sore throat. Pregnant women should be particularly cautious, as the disease can be transmitted from a mother to her fetus.

As evidenced, mice feces are dangerous, and extreme care should be taken to avoid inhalation or contact with them.
